Staff at the Animal Village in Westney Road, Mangere come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of experience with animals. Our vet teams, Hospital staff and animal attendants work to rehabilitate and re-home the animals that come into the SPCA. Our Inspectors rescue animals in distress, educate the public, and enforce the Animal Welfare Act where needed.
Our fundraising, administration and retail staff work with the public, suppliers and sponsors to raise desperately needed funds. And our Op Shop managers each work with dedicated volunteers to raise further funds for the animals.
Volunteers are a crucial part of SPCA Auckland. Over 1,150 volunteers donated over 40,189 hours of their time to help Auckland's animals in need.
SPCA Auckland CEO Andrea Midgen feels extremely privileged to head Auckland’s leading animal welfare agency and will continue to build on the strong reputation and sustainability of the organisation.
Andrea is an experienced executive with a corporate background holding various senior roles in finance, business integration and change programs, strategy and customer service. She began her career as an accountant and has worked in New Zealand and overseas for large organisations such as Owens Transport, British Airways, Ericsson, Vodafone and Southern Cross Healthcare. In the not-for-profit space Andrea was Chair of the Vodafone NZ Foundation, who have a focus on at-risk youth.
Andrea is passionate about people, animals and making a difference in this world of ours, and sees her role at SPCA Auckland as wonderfully value-aligned with her passions. At home Andrea shares her life with her boys – husband Dave, son Shaun and best companion and walking buddy Max.
